There is more bang for your buck on this trail than many others combined. We will start at
Tesnatee Gap and begin ascending on the AT as the path passes over small rock slabs we will be zigzagging to each side of the ridge until we reach Cowrock Mountain at 1.8 Miles. Wide vistas await us here where we will see Towns Creek Valley below and the rest of Georgia as far as the eye can see. We will poke around up here to discover various campsites and more outcrops which offer outstanding views. We will continue another 1.5 miles to Wolf Laurel Mountain to enjoy yet another outcrop and our perfect picnic spot. After lunch we'll turn around and get ready to head back to the car where we will go to Dukes Creek Falls.

Mileage: 6 Miles Elevation Gain: 1500'

Dukes Creek Falls trail descends in several hairpin turns down into the Gorge and ending at Davis Creek and Dukes Falls. The Falls tumble 250' in a very scenic spray. This trail is an easy walk mostly on fine gravel or soil. Dukes Creek is a series of beautiful cascades, rapids and pools. The observation decks and walk ways offer glorious views.

Mileage:
2 Miles Elevation Gain: 400'

Items to Bring: Hiking boots, hiking poles suggested, snacks, lunch, plenty of water, camera and a smile. Please dress in layers as there can be a huge change in temperature from the trailhead to the open area on the outcrop.

Carpool Location: I985 and Friendship Road Exit, Publix. Turn Left off exit to McDonalds on your right. Turn Right into McDonalds and follow to back and the back parking lot of Publix. Look for a Dark Blue Chrysler Pacifica. We will depart promptly at 8:45 AM. Assuming four people to a car the carpool share would be $10 each.

If meeting at the trailhead please be there by 9:45 AM. GA 75 Alternate to GA 348 go approx
8 or 9 miles to Tesnatee Gap parking lot.

Kim: The directions to the trailhead are above or if you have a GPS you can go by Rick's coordinates (below) . I can meet you somewhere on I 985 North if you prefer to do that. Do you know where the big new YMCA is or Hwy 52 at I985 N at the Huddle/Waffle house whichever it is. Let me know.

If the cold weather keeps up you may be blessed with seeing an icefall!

    •  Always great to see friends and make a few new. The weather was not very cooperative but we all had a "can do" spirit and sunshine in our hearts. Thanks all!
    •  Beautiful waterfall... Fun day!
    •  I don't know what everyone is complaining about -- the weather was great! Views were AMAZING!!!! Loved the day -- even though it got shortened a bit due to that fantastic weather. Anita & Celeste are great as usual. Great seeing Andrew again. Bobbi is always a trip. Enjoyed meeting Tara, Kim & Pam. I hope to see everyone again on the trail soon.
    •  The day was a great day but the weather was not the best. Dukes Creek Falls was very pretty and the hike to it was enjoyable. The hike to Cowrock Gap could have been really great had the weather cooperated. Cold and wet but the company was alot of fun. Ready to do it again on a better day.
